Technology upgrades are a must, both for the efficiency of court operations and to better serve the litigants and attorneys who come to the court.  That includes video and telephone conferencing, e-filing, and on-line access to court records for the parties and the general public.

I will prioritize full implementation of the court’s new docketing system and technology to maintain data on the court’s sentencings or find a platform to work with the court’s database in an intentional and productive matter to watch for and avoid implicit bias.

I will continue the work of the Court and utilize the new Eviction Toolkit recently announced by the Ohio Supreme Court to work with landlords and tenants to maintain safe housing for residents and ensuring landlords receive rental payments to be able to meet their obligations.

I am committed to the sentencing database project to be developed by the recently signed contract between the Ohio Supreme Court and University of Cincinnati, and will be first in line when the opportunity to participate is offered to municipal courts.

Diversion programs have a role to play for first-time offenders for some types of crimes, obviously prioritizing community safety. This type of program should be implemented for certain traffic matters to keep people from heading down the road to a driver’s license suspension, which has a negative effect on the individual and community, and for selected low tier, first criminal offenses, to encourage and educate people on proper community standards and and staying out of the criminal justice system

I am committed to fairness and justice; and will proactively and intentionally recruit and retain staff with an eye toward diversity, equity and inclusion.

Sara comes from a hardworking background and her early years formed her view of law, justice, and family. Her mother worked with people for 50 years in the food industry, and Sara’s father was a proud public servant working in law enforcement for 40 years as a Police Chief, Public Defender Investigator, District Attorney Investigator, and Mayor of New York’s Lakewood for almost 30 years. From an early age, Sara spent a significant amount of time with her father learning about both sides of the legal process and the importance of life experience.

Sara and her husband, David, have been proud Lakewood residents for the past 35 years and have raised 3 children here.  Sara looks forward to continuing to serve Lakewood, Ohio for many years to come.
